Television’s ‘Fences’

Share

Howard Rosenberg’s column “TV Puts Up ‘Fences’ on Gay Themes” (April 28) was important, even though it saddens me. It saddens me that once again we can’t see the full range of human experience on network television.

No one is asking to have one lifestyle promoted over another--only that when lesbian and/or gay stories or characters are presented, they be presented fully and honestly. I would be pleased if the networks would do more work censoring the violence seen night after night on television.

Young lesbians and gays are looking for positive role models like every other youngster. The invisibility of the gay men, and especially lesbians, cannot continue if television is to try to be representative of all that is America and not just part of America.
