Share

Montie Montana, a veteran of Western shows and parades who has performed rope tricks with his horse for nearly 70 years, will lead the 10th Annual Sylmar Parade as grand marshal today.

About 5,000 people are expected to turn out to watch the parade’s 55 entries, including floats, equestrian units, antique car clubs, and Wyatt Earp and John Wayne look-alikes.

“This is a service to the community to have a little fun,” said Jean Booth, executive director of the Sylmar Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the parade.

The event starts at 10:30 a.m. at Sylmar Park, near Polk Street and Borden Avenue. The parade will head east to Foothill Boulevard, south to Hubbard Street, west to Glenoaks Boulevard, and north to Polk, before returning to the park.

Montana, who will perform with his horse, Rex, has been a feature of the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena for 59 years.
