School Boundary Changes OKd by Westminster Board
Families living in the apartment complex at 15th and Newland streets will no longer have to guess which elementary school their children will attend, thanks to a plan recently approved by Westminster School District officials.
District trustees voted unanimously to approve a plan to assign students based on their addresses to two local schools. No one spoke in opposition to the proposal at a public hearing Thursday.
Students who live in the 15th Street apartment area are currently assigned at random to Midway City and H.B. Anderson elementary schools, based on available space.
Next year, Midway City will be closed and its students will attend the newly renovated Hayden campus.
The new plan will place students with a Westminster Boulevard or Newland Street address at Anderson. Students with a 15th Street address will attend Hayden.
District spokeswoman Audrey Brown said that about 70 students will be affected by the change.
The new boundaries will also improve the district’s ability to forecast enrollment and aid in planning, Brown said.
The plan permits parents to transfer children back to their original school if there is space, she said.
