From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Haitian refugees detained at the Guantanamo Bay U.S. Navy Base in Cuba because they are infected with the virus that causes AIDS began a second hunger strike to protest their confinement. Michel Vilsaint, leader of the Haitian detainees, told the Miami Herald that all 158 adults at the camp have refused solid food since Monday. Twenty-one children there are not taking part in the hunger strike, he said. Many of the Haitians took part in a hunger strike earlier this year in an attempt to force officials to bring them to the U.S. mainland.
