Share

A transportation summit on Metro Rail and the potential effects of mass transit on the city’s business community will be sponsored May 25 by the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber President Les Bronte said the purpose of the meeting is to present a graphics and slide presentation about the Metro Rail system, and to gather opinions from business and property owners about mass transit.

The Metro Rail system in Los Angeles is one part of a 30-year plan to build a 400-mile transportation network in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.

Various routes have been proposed to link downtown Los Angeles with Westwood by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which is overseeing Metro Rail.

Routes along Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles and Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills have been suggested, but no decision has been made by the transportation agency and the city has not yet taken a position.

Bronte said the Beverly Hills City Council, City Manager Mark Scott, city staff and representatives from the transportation agency will attend. The summit will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. May 25 in the Rodeo Room of the Beverly Hilton Hotel, 9876 Wilshire Blvd. For reservations and information: (310) 271-8126.
