A Meiners Oaks man has been convicted of committing five bank robberies in Ojai during the first three months of 1993, the FBI said Thursday.

Mark Allyn Tory, 34, is scheduled to be sentenced July 26 in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles. He faces up to 25 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for each robbery.

After a two-day trial, Tory was convicted Wednesday of robbing the Bank of A. Levy on West Ojai Avenue on Jan. 12, Feb. 3 and Feb. 26, and of robbing the Wells Fargo Bank branch on East Matilija Street on Jan. 26 and March 9.

In addition, he was convicted of using a weapon during the Jan. 12 robbery at the Bank of A. Levy.

Tory was arrested March 11 after Ventura County sheriff’s deputies and FBI agents obtained an arrest warrant and search warrant for his Meiners Oaks residence.

He was indicted March 26 on the five bank robbery charges and two weapons charges by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles. Tory is also considered a suspect in the Feb. 16 robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank at South Chestnut Street in Ventura, but has not been charged with that crime, the FBI said.
