Riverside’s Lucero Wins Speedway Event

Steve Lucero of Riverside won the four-lap handicap main event at the weekly speedway motorcycle racing program at the Orange County Fairgrounds.

Lucero and Gary Hicks of Riverside battled for the lead over the first 2 1/2 laps near the outside line of the track before Hicks got into the loose ground outside the track line and dropped back to fourth.

Chris Manchester of Hesperia finished second and Charlie Venegas of Costa Mesa was third.

Hicks, coming from 40 yards back, won the eight-lap handicap main event. John Aden of Apple Valley was second, Mike Faria of Riverside third and Brent Warner of Hesperia fourth.
