Ducks Reach 10,000 Season-Ticket Orders

The Mighty Ducks have 10,000 season-ticket orders and are preparing to notify the NHL that they have satisfied the last formal requirement for entering the league this fall, team President Tony Tavares said Friday.

The NHL set a May 31 deadline for Anaheim and South Florida to reach 10,000 in season-ticket sales, though it is considered a formality.

Because sales are ongoing, Duck executives have declined to release total sales figures, emphasizing they still are taking season-ticket orders for 17,278-capacity Anaheim Arena.

The Kings sold about 12,000 season tickets for the 1992-93 season in the 16,005-seat Forum.

Fans who were on the Ducks’ priority list were given a May 3 deadline for returning season-ticket orders, which required a $250 non-refundable deposit per seat. The team will continue sales to the public.

The Ducks’ logo and uniform design, which are on the verge of receiving final approval from the NHL, will probably not be unveiled until June, Tavares said.

“It’s nothing that dramatic, just a change here and a change there,” Tavares said of the approval process.

“It’s things like, what is your dominant color, what order are your stripes in, should the logo have piping outside of it or should it not.”

Fred Scalera, a vice president with NHL Enterprises, which oversees licensing of NHL logos, said the NHL is seeking to aid the new franchises in producing logos with colors and designs that are “timely for the marketplace.”

“We want to make sure we mix the magic of Disney with the practical side of hockey,” Scalera said. “We want to lend our knowledge, particularly in terms of things that have worked well recently,” Scalera said.
