This year, designers haven’t heeded the age-old warning “If you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.” In fact, many have scoured the kitchen for ideas: The humble apron has become a dress. Forties-style tablecloths have been transformed into skirts, blouses and pants. Fruits and vegetables make their appearance on clothing as well as accessories, from sundresses to straw hats. There’s everything, it seems, but the kitchen sink.
