Demand for Malibu Principal to Resign

Share

The fight for a local high school in Malibu has been long and, at times, acrimonious. Students, parents and teachers were just beginning to see the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel; feeling great about the progress that’s been made and the superior test scores of our students. And we were confident in the principal, Bob Donahue, who has worked jointly with us toward our mutual goal.

Supt. Neil Schmidt’s and the Santa Monica school board’s cavalier demand for the “resignation” of Bob Donahue, therefore, came as a blow to the entire community, a blow aggravated by Schmidt’s failure to adequately inform parents and students of the pending resignation demand and his failure to offer a criteria upon which the school board’s actions were taken.

Clearly, there are issues of personal privacy here that no one has asked be violated. What we have asked for is a real answer to legitimate questions and concerns, not the “shucking and jiving” performance of Schmidt at the May 4 parent meeting at Malibu High.

We’re still waiting. Apparently Schmidt and the school board have forgotten that they are public servants accountable to voters and the taxpayers who pay their salaries.
