SHERMAN OAKS : Yaroslavsky to Meet With Homeowners

Crime, development and the city budget deficit are among the topics that Los Angeles City Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky is expected to address in a “State of the City” report Wednesday in Sherman Oaks.

“The community has a lot on its mind right now,” said Fred Kramer, vice president of the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Assn., which is sponsoring the 8 p.m. meeting at Union Federal Savings at 1330 Ventura Boulevard. “And (Yaroslavsky) is going to try to bring us up to date.”

Kramer said he also expected the councilman to talk about the mayoral election, and efforts to halt the expansion of Burbank Airport and prevent the building of a Metro Rail extension above the Ventura Freeway.

“We’re concerned with just about everything that’s going on right now,” Kramer said. “Hopefully, he’ll let us know what we can do about it.”

Katharine Macdonald, Yaroslavsky’s press deputy, said that besides entertaining constituents’ questions, the councilman, who chairs the city Budget Committee, will probably focus on the city’s budget deficit.

“That’s an ongoing issue,” she said. “And something that’s really going to affect all of us.”
