Share

Parents who are wondering what to do with their children this summer might consider sending them to another country--without ever leaving the Conejo Valley.

The Thousand Oaks chapter of the American Assn. of University Women is offering children a chance to experience the cultures of four countries.

This year’s program will focus on the food, art, folklore and music of Israel from July 5 to 9; England, July 12 to 16; Armenia, July 19 to 23, and New Zealand, July 26 to 30.

Candy Gantka, coordinator of the Summer Youth Cultural Program, said children can register for one or more weeks. The weekly fee is $45, and the programs are 9:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. daily at the Arts Council of the Conejo Valley, 482 Greenmeadow Drive.

The cultural program began in 1976 and is open to first- through sixth-graders this fall. Applications and payment must be received by June 15. Gantka said enrollment is limited to 80 students a week.

A brochure and application form are available at the Arts Council; the Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Las Virgenes and Oak Park public libraries, and New Horizons in Thousand Oaks. For more information, call Gantka at 492-4401.
