Deion Sanders, who left Atlanta in a contract dispute and unhappy with his lack of playing time, will return to the Braves after a few days working out in West Palm Beach, Fla.

The Braves placed Sanders on the disqualified list on April 29 when he did not return to the team after attending his father’s funeral in Fort Meyers, Fla. He has missed 19 days and at $11,000 per day, losing a total of $209,000 from his $1-million salary.

Outfielder Albert Belle of the Cleveland Indians was suspended for three games by the American League on Tuesday for charging Kansas City pitcher Hipolito Pichardo during a game May 13. Belle, leading the league with 13 home runs and tied for the lead in runs batted in with 38, appealed the suspension by American League President Bobby Brown. Belle will remain eligible to play until his May 31 hearing.

The Cincinnati Reds gave up on outfielder Cesar Hernandez after the third loss this season blamed on his poor defense. Hernandez, who misjudged a ninth-inning fly ball Monday night, starting a Dodger rally that ended the Reds’ seven-game winning streak, was designated for assignment, and Keith Hughes was called up from Indianapolis.
