NEW BEAT: At least two judges and two prosecutors in Ventura County were once law-enforcement officers. Now, Deputy Dist. Atty. Peter E. Brown is heading the other way. He’s giving up his $66,000-a-year job to become a Santa Monica police officer, which pays a third less. “I get a lot more satisfaction out of being a police officer,” said Brown, 32, who has been a reserve cop in Santa Barbara for four years. . . . The Ventura resident enters the police academy July 9. Do fellow attorneys think he’s crazy? “Yeah, they do. But this just quit being fun.”
