NEW RELEASES : In Brief

* * * Arturo Sandoval, “Dream Come True,” GRP. The Cuban trumpeter sounds most impressive when he switches to fluegelhorn (on Freddie Hubbard’s “Little Sunflower”), plays muted horn (on the attractive “Vida Real”) or manages to combine emotion with his formidable technique (on his own well-crafted tribute “To Diz With Love”). Arrangements are by Michel Legrand, who sits in on piano for a duo cut, Gillespie’s “Con Alma.” Surprisingly, he does less than justice to his own graceful tune, “Once Upon a Summertime.”
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor) to four stars (excellent).
