Covina : Hospital Lays Off 29 More

Share

Inter-Community Medical Center has trimmed 29 full- and part-time positions in the latest of several staff reductions.

In the past 1 1/2 years, the hospital has cut its 1,100-member staff by more than 10%. Last year, 100 positions were left unfilled, and in April, the hospital cut 50 full-time positions by offering employees a voluntary separation package.

No doctors have left. Last week’s layoffs included 19 employees involved in patient care and 10 in administrative or clerical positions, spokesman Dennis Richards said.

Hospital administrators blamed the cutbacks on the recession and declining patient admissions.

Other San Gabriel Valley hospitals also are feeling the effects of the sluggish economy. Within the past month, San Gabriel Valley Medical Center and Huntington Memorial Hospital also announced staff cutbacks.
