Blue Ribbon Award

Share

On May 14, a newsworthy event took place on the front lawn of the White House. It was not a drive-by shooting, or a murder. It was President Clinton presenting the Blue Ribbon Award for excellence in elementary education to 222 elementary schools from around the country, one of the highest honors given to schools.

This event was well covered by the press in Washington, yet not one word was printed in the Los Angeles Times, or mentioned by any television or radio broadcast (locally). California had the second highest amount of schools represented, surpassed only by Texas.

Why would such an event be overlooked when good education and achievements are so important? Isn’t it time we honored the dedicated teachers and administrators and quit publicizing the criminal element in our society?
