CAMARILLO : Woman Says Pharmacy Gave Her Wrong Drug

Share

A pharmacist at a Camarillo drugstore misfilled a prescription, landing a woman in a hospital where she had to undergo brain surgery, a lawsuit filed Thursday in Ventura County Superior Court alleges.

Betsy Watson of Camarillo claims in the suit that the Sav-On Drugs pharmacist filled the bottle with Coumadin instead of Compazine when she went to refill her prescription April 6. Compazine is a tranquilizer, while Coumadin is used to treat blood disorders.

The suit contends that when Watson took the drug that had been given to her by mistake, she suffered a blood clot in her brain that required surgery. The suit claims that she remains hospitalized and will suffer permanent damage.

Beverly Hills attorney W. James Osborne, who is representing Watson and her husband, John, declined to comment on the case. No one from American Drug Stores Inc., the corporation that operates Sav-On, could be reached late Thursday.

The lawsuit asks for unspecified general damages, medical and rehabilitation costs and attorneys’ fees.
