The 29-Cent Promo

I was pleased to see the listing for my film “Bum Rap” in your “Summer Sneaks” feature (May 16).

Since it was listed directly next to such films as “Sliver” and “Cliffhanger,” readers might have gotten the impression that “Bum Rap” will be receiving a wide, well-financed, multi-week national release.

The release of my acclaimed film--hailed as “the discovery of a new movie-making talent” by the Las Vegas Review-Journal and winner of the Silver Award at the Houston Film Festival--will be neither wide nor multi-week nor national.

And its release, which will be for ONE WEEK ONLY!--order tickets now--at Laemmle’s Sunset 5 Theatres beginning Friday, is certainly not well-financed.

In fact, when I learned it would cost me more than $200 an inch to guarantee an advertisement in The Times, I figured I’d take my chances with a 29-cent letter to the editor. (Please, oh please, print this.) DANIEL IROM

Director, “Bum Rap”
