Manager Tom Lasorda added a new twist to the Cory Snyder/Darryl Strawberry situation Monday when he was asked if Snyder will go to the bench, despite his .302 average, once Strawberry rejoins the club.

“Don’t bet on it,” Lasorda said. “That’s all I have to say.”

Snyder drove in three runs with a homer and a single during the Dodgers’ 5-1 victory Monday and batted .321 in May. Strawberry is rehabilitating because of back problems.

Strawberry went two for four in his fourth game with the triple-A Albuquerque Dukes on Monday and is expected to rejoin the Dodgers when they return home Thursday.

“That makes me feel good,” Snyder said when Lasorda’s comments were relayed to him. “But (Strawberry’s) not up yet. We’ll see what happens.”

Second baseman Jody Reed was replaced by Lenny Harris after fouling a ball off his left foot during the third inning. Reed suffered a deep bruise and is listed as day to day. . . . After sitting out Sunday, left fielder Eric Davis started Monday and stole second base during the third inning, his 34th consecutive steal. That places him third on the all-time list behind only Vince Coleman, who stole 50 in a row in 1988, and Davey Lopes, who stole 38 in succession for the 1975 Dodgers. . . . The Dodgers were 17-8 in May.
