The Region : 9 to Run for Town Council
Nine residents from the unincorporated county area around Monrovia, Duarte and Arcadia will compete for seven seats on the newly created town council in a June 11 election.
The town council will represent about 11,000 residents. Like town councils in the unincorporated areas of Altadena and La Crescenta, it will serve as an advisory body to the County Board of Supervisors.
Council organizers say it also will help inform residents about county programs and problems facing the community.
The candidates are Richard Brown, 35, a store owner; Yvonne Bullock, 51, an outreach worker; Rosa Carillo, 28, assistant manager for a clothing manufacturer; Reyna Diaz, 36, a wedding coordinator; Paul Diffley, 56, a teacher; David Hall, 44, an architect; Joan Schmidt, 44, a vice principal; Stanley Trinaystich, 56, a retired accountant, and Carolyn Ziegler, 52, a speech writer.
