Nebraska-based Father Flanagan’s Boys Town on Wednesday formally dedicated its first emergency residential care center for troubled boys and girls from Los Angeles County.

The center, at 350 W. Wardlow Road, will provide care and treatment for up to 16 abused, abandoned, neglected or runaway children at a time, and as many as 325 per year. Former professional football player and U.S. Olympian Lawrence Burton, a 13-year Boys Town employee, is the coordinator of the facility. Boys Town operates two other programs in Southern California. Out of its offices in Anaheim, the organization runs Treatment Foster Family Services in Los Angeles and Orange counties, and Family Preservation Services in Orange County.
