Share

Thousand Oaks officials are looking for volunteers to assist with the city’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Drop-off Program, scheduled for June 12 and 13 at the Municipal Service Center in Newbury Park.

Volunteers will work in two-hour shifts answering questions and collecting surveys, officials said. No one who participates will handle or be near hazardous materials, officials said.

Refreshments will be provided for volunteers at the event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prospective volunteers should call Carolyn Greene, the city’s solid-waste planner, at 497-8611, Ext. 644.

The free collection day allows residents of Thousand Oaks and neighboring unincorporated areas to safely dispose of toxic household materials, such as paint, pesticides, batteries, motor oil and cleaners, officials said.

Such materials can harm the environment if dumped into a landfill. Appointments are required to bring materials to the collection site. For an appointment, call 497-8611, Ext. 424.

A second drop-off day will be held in the fall.
