DOING THE DUCK: The call is out for extras for “Mighty Ducks 2,” the sequel to Disney’s youth hockey movie. . . . With flyers at local schools and a huge invitation flashed on the scoreboard at Anaheim Stadium, Disney expects to fill the new Anaheim Arena with would-be hockey fans during filming for six days in July. . . . “It’ll be our first chance to show off the arena for a real ice hockey game,” said arena spokesman John Nicoletti.

DINOSAUR LOVE: If the publicity blitz for the Steven Spielberg flick “Jurassic Park” has stirred your imagination, you can search for dinosaur bones yourself. . . . The Dinamation International Society, a nonprofit research arm of the Irvine firm that builds huge dinosaur replicas, leads amateurs on five-day digs around the West. Last year, they found bones of a never-before-identified dinosaur estimated to be 125 million years old.

VISITING: Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt comes to Irvine today for a small, private chat with local developers and environmentalists. He’ll also give a lunchtime speech to the Orange County Forum. . . . Expect the reception to be warm, since both sides were generally pleased with Babbitt’s recent compromise to protect the California gnatcatcher. Environmentalists are worried that Babbitt is reportedly on President Clinton’s short list of candidates for U.S. Supreme Court, with one saying, “That would be a real loss to us.”

STILL GOING: Triathlons, those swim-cycle-run events, have lost popularity nationally, but Orange County is bucking that trend (C10). . . . About 1,500 athletes and thousands of spectators are expected at Lake Mission Viejo on Sunday for the eighth Mazda Orange County Performing Arts Center Triathlon. . . . This race is special because it’s run in a loop, so fans can see it all. Says pro triathlete Andy Carlson, an Irvine native: “What they do in Orange County will do more for the sport than anything else.”
