INDUSTRY CHATTER: Why did Savage Records--home of David Bowie and Gene Loves Jezebel--close its doors after just two years? Savage is owned by 25-year-old David Mimran but, according to insiders, was funded by Mimran’s father, sports car mogul Jean-Claude Mimran, who reportedly pulled the plug in light of mounting losses.

The industry rumor mill has Giant Records exploring the possibility of picking up the company’s most visible release--Bowie’s “Black Tie White Noise” album--and trying to pump life into it. So far, the album has been a commercial dud despite heavy promotion. Giant’s Irving Azoff refused to comment.
