FELINE SIGNS: What’s your cat’s sign? Cat astrologer Genia Wennerstrom wants to offer cat owners some insight into their feline companions. . . . In book signings starting Friday at Brentano’s in Costa Mesa, Wennerstrom will give free cat astrology readings. (“Scorpio cats are lively; Virgos are very neat.”) Local animal shelters will bring cats for adoption, and Wennerstrom will offer advice on the compatibility of the furry creatures with humans of certain astrological signs.

RACK ‘EM UP: The crowd at last week’s Fullerton City Council meeting had bickered for nearly an hour over a proposed pool hall when Mayor Molly McClanahan drew gasps and laughter with a revelation of her own. . . . “I happen to be a billiards player,” the proper, silver-haired mayor announced. McClanahan and three of her four colleagues voted to approve the 15-table pool parlor despite some bitter community objections. . . . No immediate word on whether the mayor plans to play any eight ball herself.

AROUND AGAIN: A custodian from Tustin will try to break his own world record for Ferris wheel riding at the Orange County Fairgrounds starting June 17. . . . The Guinness Book of World Records gave Jeff Block, 36, the world title in 1978 after he rode a San Jose Ferris wheel for 37 consecutive days. Now he’s going for 38 on a vintage 1929 Ferris wheel and expects to finish July 25--the last day of the county fair. . . . “I’m fascinated by Ferris wheels,” he says. “I think I’m still normal and everything. I don’t think of myself as crazy. I’m just your average Joe.”

COMMUNITY COPS: Golden West College in Huntington Beach will be designated by the state later this month as the site for a pilot program in teaching “community-oriented police procedures.” The program will be the first in the state and only the second in the nation, said Philip Westin, the college’s president-designate. “It’ll teach problem solving at the community level,” he said.
