FULLERTON : 2 Budget Hearings to Be Held Today

Share

The City Council will hold two public hearings today to discuss the city’s projected budget of $75 million for the 1993-94 fiscal year.

The city must cut about $2 million from various departments to balance the budget, according to the city staff. Recommended cuts would affect all departments and would decrease the number of police officers, firefighters, library employees and maintenance workers.

The council will also consider ending a breakfast program for senior citizens and reducing staff and support for the Fullerton Museum Center, according to the city staff.

“This is the time at which members of the community who have a concern about the budget, or who have a special interest, should come down and be heard,” said Chris Meyer, assistant city manager.

The council will meet at 3:30 p.m. to discuss the city’s administrative departments, and again at 7:30 p.m. to talk about the Police, Fire, Maintenance and Community Services departments, Meyer said.

The council gave tentative approval in April to a 3% utility tax, which it said could raise $2.6 million next year. The tax will be discussed at the council’s meeting next Tuesday, and a final vote will be held on July 6.

The council gave initial approval in April to a city staff plan to cut $2 million in spending, but will not make its final vote until after deciding about the utility tax, according to staff.
