SANTA ANA : 2 Schools Will Open to Ease Crowding
As part of a continuing program to alleviate campus crowding, the Santa Ana Unified School District will open two new elementary schools over the next few months.
The Board of Education on Tuesday approved the attendance boundaries of the two schools, Adeline Walker Elementary and Carl Harvey Elementary, said spokeswoman Rosemary Ramos.
Students attending Walker, at 811 E. Bishop St., will include those living in the area roughly bounded by Standard Street to the east, Main Street to the west, McFadden Avenue to the south and Bishop Street to the north.
Students attending Harvey, at 1635 S. Center St., will include those living in the area roughly bounded by Raitt Street to the east, the Santa Ana River to the west, Harvard Street to the south and Edinger Avenue to the north.
Harvey, which has been run exclusively as a special education school for decades, will be converted into a regular elementary school. Harvey’s special education students will be integrated into campuses districtwide.
Opening the two schools will significantly decrease crowding at the district’s 10 other elementary schools, lowering their enrollment by an average of 115 students, Ramos said.
