BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJOR LEAGUES : Hollins Needs Surgery on Right Hand
Third baseman Dave Hollins of the Philadelphia Phillies requires surgery for a broken bone in his right hand and will be sidelined four to six weeks, team physician Phillip J. Marone said Friday.
Hollins had been bothered by a sore right hand this season, but aggravated the problem Thursday night against the New York Mets. He left the game because of an inflamed right wrist after one swing.

Baltimore’s Rick Sutcliffe, David Segui and Alan Mills will appeal their suspensions for their parts in last Sunday’s brawl between the Orioles and Seattle Mariners.
“I don’t want to get suspended, but I felt I did what I had to do,” Sutcliffe said.
Seven players were suspended for a total of 27 games Thursday for participating in the melee between the Mariners and Orioles that brought Baltimore police onto the field.
