OXNARD : Groups, Man Honored for Helping Seniors
Oxnard’s Commission on Aging has honored two organizations and an individual for their work benefiting the city’s senior citizens.
Catholic Charities Oasis received a Community Senior Service Award for its efforts with the Elder Identification Program, which helps local law enforcement agencies identify memory-impaired senior citizens.
The Oxnard Police Department was similarly recognized. Since 1990, the agency has assisted in locating missing senior citizens through a photo book maintained by the department.
Volunteer senior softball coach Pete Morales, who helped found a sports program for elders six years ago, also received a Community Senior Service Award. He helped supervise the league while it has grown to 24 teams countywide, including five Oxnard-area teams.
