Ford Expects Lower Sales in Europe: Ford Motor Co. has again lowered its expectations for business in Europe and said it may have to lay off more workers there. Wayne Booker, executive vice president of Ford’s international operations, told reporters that the company now expects car and truck sales in Europe to reach only 12.5 million units for 1993, down 17.5% from already-depressed 1992 levels. Booker said the European economy may worsen before recovering, requiring further cuts. Ford eliminated 10,000 positions in Europe earlier this year.
