“BOTTOM LAND” (U.S.; Edward Radtke; 1:40, 4:05 and 6:50 p.m.). An admirably rigorous account of a father (Richard Hyde), young son (Bryan Shane Allen) and breathtakingly crusty grandfather (Haskell Phillips), living together on a humble Ohio farm and coping with the aftermath of a shattering tragedy. Phillips makes a formidable redneck patriarch, blunt and uncompromising, a crushing yet vulnerable presence.

“A RAGE IN HARLEM” (U.S.; Bill Duke; 4:15 and 9:15 p.m.). Chester Himes’ sensual, surreal, cartoonishly violent and breathtakingly bawdy Harlem universe has been very entertainingly transferred to the screen by Duke and stars Forest Whitaker and Robin Givens. Traditional comic gangster material done with a biting twist that makes all the difference.
