Man Throws Himself in Front of Amtrak Train in Apparent Suicide
A man threw himself in front of a train Sunday in an apparent suicide.
Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Wilkerson said the victim rode his bicycle to the railroad tracks where they cross under La Paz Road.
When the fast-moving Amtrak train approached shortly after 10 a.m., he leaped in front of it and was killed, Wilkerson said.
A railroad employee called sheriff’s deputies to help recover the body.
A “rambling” suicide note was found nearby, but it was unsigned, Wilkerson said.
The Sheriff’s Department withheld the victim’s name pending notification of relatives.
