VENTURA : Man Denies Charges in Standoff Case

A Ventura man accused of shooting at his estranged girlfriend’s car, holing up in a house with a shotgun and drawing the weapon on police pleaded not guilty to all charges Thursday in Ventura County Municipal Court.

Deric Robin Hobson, 29, who reportedly was talked out of the Ralston Street dwelling by Ventura police after a two-hour standoff, denied two charges of shooting at unoccupied vehicles and one charge of drawing a weapon in front of police.

On June 15, the defendant went to the home of his former girlfriend with a shotgun and shot at her car when he learned she was not home, police said. He told the woman’s mother he intended to kill his ex-girlfriend, according to reports.

Instead, Hobson drove to his brother’s Ralston Street residence, shot at another vehicle and holed up inside the house while police sealed off a four-block area, police said. Hobson surrendered two hours later and no one was injured.

Hobson remains in Ventura County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail, but a bail review hearing is scheduled for June 29. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 14.
