* * 1/2 Radiohead, “Pablo Honey,” Capitol. This English quintet’s debut doesn’t really deliver anything you haven’t heard before, steering too close to Smiths-like melodies and trying ever so hard to be depressed in the way the Cure popularized. Occasionally, though, it does offer clever lyrics and good hooks. And “Creep” is one of the year’s most infectious singles--even if the self-deprecation doesn’t really ring true.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
