A summary of selected City Hall actions affecting Central Los Angeles in the past week.

CITY COUNCIL

* ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT: Approved a proposal to spend $150,000 to hire a consultant to develop a plan to establish a Downtown Entertainment District that would include rehabilitating the historic theaters on Broadway, including the Million Dollar Theatre.

* CRUISE CONTROL: Approved a proposal to discourage Sunday night cruising along a portion of Crenshaw Boulevard. Vehicles will not be allowed to park or stop along the boulevard from 28th to 39th streets from 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday. Cruising was outlawed earlier along the boulevard from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to the Inglewood border.

* COMMUNITY FUNDING: Approved distributing $8,856 from the public service fund of Councilwoman Rita Walters’ office to 18 community organizations, including the 28th Street YMCA and the Jefferson High School Motivational Task Force. Each group received $492.

* BLOCK PARTY: Approved a request to close Cherrywood Avenue between Rodeo Road and Coliseum Street from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 17 for the Cherrywood Avenue Block Club and Neighborhood Watch party.

HOW THEY VOTED

How South-Central and Eastside representatives voted on selected issues. * GANGS: Approved a propoal allowing increased police security at 20 city parks during the summer to provide more protection from gangs. The council adopted the plan as an alternative to an ordinance that would ban gang members from recreation areas. An amendment to the proposal by Mark Ridley-Thomas creates a Safe Parks Task Force, which consists of officials from city departments who are to develop a more comprehensive plan to keep recreational areas safe. Passed: 10-0. Voting yes: Richard Alatorre, Joan Milke Flores, Mike Hernandez, Nate Holden and Ridley-Thomas. Absent: Walters.

* OVERTIME PAY: Approved $130,000 in overtime pay for firefighters who were on duty in late April during the closing days of the federal trial of the police officers in the Rodney G. King beating case. Passed: 10-0. Voting yes: Alatorre, Flores, Hernandez, Holden and Ridley-Thomas. Absent: Walters.

* ELECTION PAY: Approved $69,000 in overtime pay for employees of the city clerk’s office who worked during the 1993 city elections. Passed: 10-0. Voting yes: Alatorre, Flores, Hernandez, Holden and Ridley-Thomas. Absent: Walters.
