Delta Settles With Pan Am Flight Attendants: Delta Air Lines has agreed to distribute $4.6 million in cash and 20,000 free tickets to 529 Pan Am flight attendants who were interviewed by Delta but not hired in 1991. The payments are part of a proposed settlement of a class-action lawsuit filed against Delta by the flight attendants. The plaintiffs accused the airline of illegally asking personal questions during interviews and discriminating on the basis of age, sex or race. The flight attendants were interviewed when Delta bought Pan Am’s European routes and Northeast shuttle in 1991. Delta interviewed about 10,000 Pan Am employees and hired about 7,800. Some flight attendants complained that Delta interviewers asked them about abortions, birth control practices and marital histories. About 200 filed complaints.
