HEALTH CARE

The Name Game: There’s a new name in town, and it’s connected to an old company.

DVI Inc. decided to shorten its name from DVI Health Services Inc. because the former title implied that the company offers health care services, which it does not.

So what does the Irvine-based company do?

It owns seven outpatient facilities that perform a variety of diagnostic duties, such as magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound. And it operates a couple of outpatient clinics. But its main business is to provide financing for health care companies, leasing arrangements for diagnostic machines and collection services for health care receivables under its A/R Advantage subsidiary.

In fact, the direction of the company is away from health care services and toward financial services in the health care field.

“Given where we are going, the health service name is really misleading,” DVI spokesman Dick Stern said. “We want to become a major player in the financing and leasing of medical equipment. It’s all about redefining the strategy of the company.”
