GLENDALE : College Trustees OK $70.3-Million Budget

Share

Glendale Community College trustees have approved a $70.3-million 1993-94 budget, and also signaled $3.6 million in additional cuts for part-time employees and other areas.

Other items that were not funded include a 3% salary increase for college employees and $892,409 for rent and equipment repairs.

When funds for capital expenditures are excluded, the overall budget is $44.2 million, a 7.5% drop from the $47.8 million adopted for 1992-93.

College administrators stressed that cuts are not final because as much as $1.7 million in new revenues could be available in the fall.

“The decision of the board was not to allocate funds to these accounts at this time because we didn’t have to,” said Lawrence Serot, vice president of administration. “These are the areas that we are looking at to make cuts, but . . . we’ve made no decisions yet.”

Board clerk Phillip Kazanjian said the budget was based on projections stemming from Gov. Pete Wilson’s initial state budget proposal, which has since dramatically changed.

“If we get full funding (from the final state budget), then nothing will be cut,” Kazanjian said.

Administrators expect to hold budget review meetings throughout the summer to come up with a final college district budget late August or early September. Meanwhile, they will consider funding uncovered costs for part-time jobs or operations on an as-needed basis, Serot said.
