Activist to Take on Moorhead

Share

Community activist and business consultant Elizabeth Michael has announced that she will run against 22-year incumbent U.S. Rep. Carlos Moorhead in the June, 1994, Republican primary.

Michael, 36, of Eagle Rock, describes herself “philosophically as a Libertarian Republican”--fiscally conservative and moderate to liberal on social issues, she said.

Michael was the Republican nominee in 1990 against Democratic Assemblyman Burt Margolin, and has also run for state Senate, City Council, and Community College Board. She is a two-term County Central Committee member.

Her chief platform issue is immigration reform. Michael criticized Moorhead for sponsoring a bill to spend $300 million on hospital care for illegal alien mothers who cross the border to obtain employment.
