Flags for the Fourth : Holiday Shows Deliver Plenty of Fireworks

Fourth of July celebrations in the Southeast and Long Beach areas range from all-day festivals with music and food booths to simple fireworks displays. They include:
CERRITOS
Leisure Services and the Let Freedom Ring Committee will have their annual Fourth of July festivities at Cerritos Park East, 13234 E. 166th St. beginning at 9 a.m. The celebration will feature games, contests and food, and will culminate with a fireworks show at dusk. The Long Beach Community Band will perform at 6 and 8:45 p.m. Admission is free. Information: (310) 860-0311.
DOWNEY
The Downey Jaycees will present the annual “Celebrate America” Fireworks Show, featuring a performance of the Long Beach Junior Concert Band and a fireworks display at Warren High School football field, 8141 DePalma St. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and entertainment begins at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are $4 for adults, $1 for children 4 to 12, free for children 3 and younger; $5 the day of the event for adults. Information: (310) 928-2664. There is also a Community Fair celebrating Independence Day at Warren High School. Admission is $1 and ride-ticket books are $5. Ticket holders to the fireworks display will be admitted to the fair free.
HUNTINGTON PARK
The parks and recreation department’s “Celebrate America” program will feature music by disc jockey Jose Sanchez, opening remarks by Mayor Richard V. Loya, and a musical fireworks display. The program begins at 7:30 p.m. at Huntington Park High School football field, 6020 Mines Ave.
LONG BEACH
Bo Diddley, The Mamas and the Papas, Cannibal and the Headhunters and Bobby Cochran and the “Rock Around the Clock Show” will perform at the Fourth of July celebration at Pine Square. The event includes game booths, arts and crafts and a classic-car show. Entertainment starts at noon and ends at 9 p.m., when the fireworks display begins offshore, near the Queen Mary. Tickets are $5 advance purchase and $8 at the event. Information: (310) 436-4259.
Belmont Pier will offer a fireworks harbor cruise from 7:30 to 10 p.m. departing from Ocean Boulevard and Termino Avenue. Tickets are $12 adults, $8 children 12 and younger; prepaid reservation only. Information: (310) 434-6781.
LYNWOOD
The city will present ground and aerial fireworks displays beginning at dusk at Mervyn M. Dymally Congressional Park, 3798 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
MONTEBELLO
The Parks and Recreation Department will have a fireworks display at 9 p.m. at Grant Rea Park, 600 Rea Drive.
PICO RIVERA
The city will celebrate its 35th anniversary and the birthday of the nation with live entertainment, kiddie rides, games and tournaments, food and an artisans fair, all starting at 10 a.m. and ending with a fireworks display at 9 p.m. at Smith Park, 6016 S. SANTA FE SPRINGS
The city fireworks display will begin at 9 p.m. at Los Nietos Park, 1143 Charlesworth Ave.
