Nation IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : 9th Man Arrested in Bombing Plot
A ninth man was arrested in connection with an alleged conspiracy to bomb several New York landmarks, including the United Nations, after federal officials said he was recruited to provide explosives to the others planning to assemble the bombs. Earl Gant, who also goes by aliases of Abd Rashid and Abd Jalil, was arrested in Philadelphia. Federal officials said Gant never actually delivered the “powerful explosive substance” but that he had been told the explosives were to be used for the protection of the others.
