A summary of significant Los Angeles City Hall decisions affecting the Westside in the past week.

CITY COUNCIL

* STREET FAIR: Approved the closure of Abbot Kinney Boulevard from Venice Boulevard to Brooks Avenue from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 19 for the annual Venice Street Fair hosted by the Abbot Kinney District Assn.

* BLOCK PARTY: Councilman Nate Holden asked that Marvin Avenue between Bangor Street and Ballona Creek be temporarily closed for the Marvin, Curson, and Carmona Avenue Neighborhood block party, which is scheduled for July 17 from noon to 4 p.m.

HOW THEY VOTED

How Westside representatives voted on selected issues.

* GRAFFITI: Approved an ordinance that imposes a fine of up to $1,000 on anyone convicted of committing an act of graffiti or graffiti-related vandalism. All of the money collected by these penalties will be used to fund the graffiti reward program or other graffiti abatement projects. PASSED: 13-0

VOTING YES: John Ferraro, Ruth Galanter, Holden, Mark Ridley-Thomas and Zev Yaroslavsky.

ABSENT: Marvin Braude and Michael Woo.

* MENACING DOGS: Gave preliminary approval to an amendment, proposed by Galanter, to the municipal code that would prohibit dog owners from allowing their dogs to assault, threaten or menace any human being or other animal. The Animal Regulation Department opposed the proposal, arguing that the city already has sufficient laws to prevent such activity. PASSED: 13-0.

VOTING YES: Ferraro, Galanter, Holden, Ridley-Thomas and Yaroslavsky.

ABSENT: Braude and Woo.

* BRADLEY TOWER: Approved a proposal by Holden to name the reception room in the City Hall Tower the Mayor Tom Bradley Room in honor of Bradley’s longtime service to the city. PASSED: 13-0.

VOTING YES: Ferraro, Galanter, Holden, Ridley-Thomas and Yaroslavsky.

ABSENT: Braude and Woo.

BOARD OF RECREATION AND PARK COMMISSIONERS

* PARKING: Approved a proposal for the Library Department to construct a small parking lot for staff and disabled patrons across the street from the Los Angeles High Memorial Park on Olympic Boulevard between Mullen Avenue and Muirfield Road.
