UNDERSTANDING IMMIGRATION LAW: How to Enter, Work & Live in the United States by Nancy-Jo Merritt (Layman’s Lawguides/ Makai: $9.95; 102 pp.). Merritt offers an overview of America’s complex immigration statues, including the many classes of visas and what their holders may and may not do. As the author notes, the book is not a substitute for legal assistance, but it offers a starting point for would-be residents, as well as useful information for citizens engaged in the debate over immigration reform. A Spanish translation by Maria Cristina Castro is being issued as “Conozca Las Leyes De Inmigracion.”
