UCI Chancellor’s Hiring Approach

Newly appointed UCI Chancellor Laurel L. Wilkening has promised a carrot-and-stick approach to affirmative action hiring quotas (“Candid Style Key to UCI’s New Leader,” June 20). Those departments hiring according to the race and sex of their applicants receive financial rewards. Those that don’t, don’t.

Dr. Wilkening would save many people a lot of time and effort if she simply placed a sign in the personnel office: “No White Males Need Apply.”
