PORT HUENEME : Naval Warfare Center Plans Open House

Two Navy warships will be open for tours and a Tomahawk missile system, such as was used in the recent strike against Iraq, will be on display during an open house Friday at the Port Hueneme Navy base.

The Port Hueneme Division Naval Surface Warfare Center, which develops and tests missile systems, is holding its first public open house to mark its 30th anniversary, Navy officials said.

The free, daylong event will include food booths and entertainment.

But the highlight promises to be tours of the USS Wadsworth and the USS David R. Ray, two warships usually stationed in Long Beach.

The David R. Ray carries the Tomahawk missile system, which the United States used in the Gulf War and again last month in the strike against Iraq’s intelligence headquarters.

Ship tours will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., while the food and entertainment will be available only from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
