From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Police put up cordons in two black townships near Johannesburg as cars and houses were set afire in political violence that has killed more than 70 blacks nationwide in three days. Police found 20 bodies in Tokoza and Katlehong townships, bringing the toll in those townships to at least 44 since the beginning of the weekend. The fighting appeared to pit members of the African National Congress against Zulu migrant workers who live in hostels and support the Inkatha Freedom Party. In the eastern province of Natal, at least 28 deaths were recorded over the weekend.
