SANTA CLARITA — Two residents were killed and a third was injured Monday night when a car drifted over the center line of Bouquet Canyon Road and collided with an oncoming vehicle.
A 23-year-old male driver from Canyon Country, who has not been identified pending notification of next of kin, and passenger Carrie Garfield, 35, of Saugus died in the crash, said Lt. Barbara Persten of the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s station. The Nissan in which they were traveling slid sideways into the southbound lane of Bouquet Canyon Road and was hit by an oncoming car, Persten said.
“The force of the impact tore open the passenger side of the Nissan, causing the passenger to be ejected,” Persten said.
Saugus resident Rebecca Liefel, 20, was driving the other vehicle and sustained minor injuries.
All three people were wearing seat belts, Persten said. Bouquet Canyon Road was closed between Hob Avenue and Benz Road for about four hours after the collision.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
