NORTH HOLLYWOOD : Restaurant Loses Bid to Sell Liquor

Share

A North Hollywood restaurant that has been twice cited for selling alcohol without a permit lost an appeal to sell liquor, officials said.

A Los Angeles planning commissioner turned down an earlier request in March to sell liquor at the 51-seat Galaxy Thai Cuisine restaurant, 13126 Sherman Way. On Tuesday, the city’s Board of Zoning Appeals ruled against granting the restaurant’s appeal.

“We didn’t feel they would be responsible,” said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Larry Mauldin of the Van Nuys Division vice squad. “We felt (selling liquor there) would hurt the crime level and it wouldn’t benefit the community.”

Police cited the manager of the eatery in January on two counts of selling alcohol and providing entertainment without a permit, Mauldin said. Manager Guy Kusol, 31, is expected to stand trial on both counts in September, Assistant City Atty. Laura Van Eyk said.

Last month, owner Chanya Sulzman, 41, of Torrance was cited for selling alcohol at the restaurant. She pleaded guilty to the charge July 1 and received 12 months probation and a $415 fine, Van Eyk said.
