Gloria Marshall Pays IRS, Reopens Centers: After eight of the company’s 13 weight-loss centers were closed by the Internal Revenue Service on Thursday, President Mark Bergendahl said he gave the agency a check for $435,000 but will challenge the allegations of non-payment of taxes and seek reimbursement. An IRS spokeswoman said the company has received at least five notices in the last six months seeking payment of delinquent employee payroll taxes. The IRS filed its first lien against the company in February, 1992, according to documents at the Orange County recorder’s office. Bergendahl said Gloria Marshall America Inc. is doing well. Of the 280 centers in the nation in 1982, the 13 centers in Los Angeles and Orange counties are all that remain.
